Young Rider: Daisy Fielding Daisy Fielding is 17 years old and a member of the 2018 Queensland Young Rider Dressage Team writes Dannii Cunnane.
Daisy Fielding and her horse Fairbanks Davinchi (aka Vinnie), a beautiful 10 year old Warmblood gelding are an incredible talent in dressage.
Daisy and Vinnie have been a combination for two-and-a-half years and in that time have blitzed the Dressage scene with their scores and their pzazz. With that kind of success comes a lot of work, and as a self-described perfectionist, Daisy strives to better herself every ride.
I started riding when I was younger via little pony rides at the local markets and then my parents took me for lessons, explains Daisy.
I didn’t start out doing dressage, my original coach was into showing so I dabbled in that as well as jumping. A friend of mine mentioned that I should have a lesson with Nicole Tough and my love of dressage came from there.
Daisy loves the structure and challenge of dressage. I always want to build on my results and improve on our weaknesses, she says. I’ve found the last six months really rewarding having spent a fair amount of time investing in Vinnie’s flying changes. He seems to have got the hang of them now!
Last year wasn’t easy, with Daisy sitting her year 12 exams and competing at the same time, but she still managed to win her tests at Interschool and CDI level. Her results caught the eye of Bond University, where she has been offered a Scholarship to study a Bachelor of Sports Management.

Although Daisy has put in the hard yards, she is quick to acknowledge the strong and supportive team she has behind her. My parents, Peta and Brennan, are great supporters of my riding and they’ve driven me to all my competitions and training sessions, says Daisy. They’ve supported me in every way possible to follow my equestrian dream and I’m very grateful for that. My coach, Nicole Tough, is also integral to Vinnie and I becoming a successful partnership. She supports me through my warm-ups and constructively goes through my tests afterwards so we can improve. We are really looking forward to this season and now that Vinnie is more confident in the changes we will be competing Medium and Advanced level with a Prix St-George scheduled towards the end of the year.
